Georgia’s Colonial Coast Bird & Nature FestivalJekyll Island, Ga. –Wildlife enthusiasts are expected to flock again to Georgia’s Colonial Coast Birding & Nature Festival held on Jekyll Island October 12-14, 2007. The fifth annual festival offers a variety of entertainment and educational activities including a keynote speech by Cornell University’s Laboratory of Ornithology Director, Dr. John W. Fitzpatrick on the Ivory-billed Woodpecker’s rediscovery; Saturday’s FREE Nature Day event for families and youth; plus seminars and field trips highlighting coastal Georgia’s abundant natural beauty and wildlife. The Jekyll Island Convention Center will serve as the hub for festival activities, and field trip excursions will include many of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division’s (DNR/WRD) Colonial Coast Birding Trail sites.

St Augustine Celebrates its 442nd Birthday

It’s no secret that Jamestown is celebrating America’s 400 years Anniversary in 2007. There have been news articles, interviews, television broadcasts, big name sponsors and lots of attention on the internet. Even President Bush himself paid a visit to Jamestown in May this year. But did you know that St Augustine actually celebrated its 400th birthday back in 1965? This year St. Augustine turns 442 years old and is preparing for a five-day-long birthday bash taking place from August 28th – September 1, 2007.

ST. AUGUSTINE’S BIRTHDAY TO FEATURE LIVING TIMELINE

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (Aug. 22) – Party goers celebrating the 442nd birthday of St. Augustine, Florida, will have a unique opportunity to walk through a living timeline of the Nation’s oldest city. The timeline will be conducted on the grounds of Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Park beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 1. It will feature both actual people who participated in events related to the city’s recent past, as well as re-enactors portraying famous St. Augustinians from throughout its history.
