COLUMBIA – There’s now a 40-acre permanent “cloud†over Hickory Knob State Resort Park. And that’s a good thing. The 1,100-acre park on the shores of Lake Thurmond in McCormick County is one of the first in the S.C. State Park Service to offer wireless Internet access to visitors.
At Hickory Knob, the service is in the form of a “wireless cloud†that covers the park’s restaurant, lodge rooms, swimming pool area and meeting facilities, as well as the historic Guillebeau House.
Across the state, free wireless Internet access is now available in and around the ranger station at Myrtle Beach State Park, in and around the park store at Devils Fork State Park on Lake Jocassee, in and around the Visitors Center on S.C. 11 at Table Rock State Park, in andn around the office at Santee State Park on Lake Marion, and at the Drummond Conference Center at Lake Greenwood State Recreation Area. Yo Art Project at the Library – Charleston, SC
The Palmetto Project presents an exhibition of photo works and posters by kids ages 6 – 15 from the Meeting Street Manor and Bridgeview Public Housing Residence. These photos and posters illustrate the children’s individual creativity as well as their insight into their community. There will be a reception Sunday, May 18 from 3 – 5 p.m. with refreshments and a multimedia presentation. The Yo Art Project is a facet of Palmetto Project programs and is presented in partnership with the City of Charleston Housing Authority, the Charleston Recreation Department, the City of Charleston’s Office of Cultural Affairs, and the Charleston County Main Library.

Center for Birds of Prey Opens for Public Tours Early June – Charleston, SC

Charleston, S.C. – After establishing a comprehensive program of medical care, educational outreach and conservation research focused on birds, the Center for Birds of Prey, part of the Avian Conservation Center located just north of Charleston, will soon open for public tours. Visitors will have the chance to see live birds of prey in a natural setting, watch regularly scheduled flight demonstrations and learn more about the role these birds play in our environment.
