Pets Need the Luck of the Irish – Savannah, Georgia

March 4, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

Savannah, GA) – It’s been a rough few weeks for the homeless pets of Coastal Pet Rescue, with no pot of gold anywhere in sight.
“We know when we accept a pet into our rescue that there is great risk of health issues,” says Coastal Pet Rescue president and founder Lisa Scarbrough. “With so little in donations since November, we really were not prepared for the mounting veterinary costs in just the last few weeks.”

Coastal Pet Rescue has four adult dogs undergoing heartworm treatment, at a cost of about $400 per treatment, with two dogs needing more than one. Additionally, four of the nearly 30 puppies spent the weekend in the ER vet, netting a $900 bill, with more expenses to follow.

“We really want to change the lives of homeless pets, but without donations, we’re being forced to turn new animals away daily,” says Scarbrough.

Donations may be made online at www.coastalpetrescue.org or by mail to
PO Box 30462, Savannah, GA 31410.

Coastal Pet Rescue will hold an adoption day at the H&R Block Party in Pooler (115 Canal St.) this Saturday from 10 to 3. Adoption fees are $100 for canines, $80 for felines, and include shots current to age, heartworm test, FIV/FeLV test, microchipping and spay/neuter.
