Peter Max in Jacksonville

February 4, 2009 by Susanne Talentino

Jacksonville, FL (February 1, 2009) — World-renowned artist Peter Max (www.petermax.com) returns to Avondale’s R. Roberts Gallery with his latest exhibit, making two special appearances—Saturday, March 7th, 6-9 PM and Sunday, March 8th, Noon-3 PM. Artwork is available for acquisition and each appearance is open to the public.

Max’s latest retrospective features over 100 pieces of his art, including original paintings, drawings, and limited-edition prints. The subject matter of the work ranges from his famous iconic paintings such as the “Statue of Liberty” and “Flag with Heart,” to his well-known “Cosmic” images. Some of his newer works, such as his piece commemorating Yankee Stadium and his portrait of President Barack Obama, will be included in the exhibit.

Since the late 1960s, Peter Max’s work has been an artistic symbol of American pop culture. His images form a scrapbook illustrating 40 years of Americana. Max’s imagination and vision can be found in over 100 museums and galleries throughout the world and on a variety of canvases, including the Berlin Wall and a Boeing 777 jumbo jet, currently in use by Continental Airlines. Max has painted portraits of numerous world leaders, including the last six U.S. Presidents, the Dalai Lama, and Mikhail Gorbachev. He has also been designated Official Artist of numerous international events, including six Grammy Award broadcasts, three World Fairs, and six Super Bowls.

“We’re thrilled to bring Peter Max and his amazing work back to Jacksonville, where he has been so warmly welcomed in the past,” said Gallery owner, Jennifer R. Jones. “We expect another enthusiastic turn out for this event, especially because the artist will be offering a 12” x 16” signed and individually dedicated ‘LOVE’ poster with each purchase of his work. Buyers will have the opportunity to meet Peter and have their purchase personally signed.”

RSVP’s are requested to attend Peter Max’s appearances. The public is also invited to attend a special “uncrating party” at the Gallery on Friday, February 28th. Appointments to preview the art in the exhibit can be made beginning March 1st. To RSVP or make an appointment for a preview, call the Gallery at (904) 388-1188.

For almost 20 years, R. Roberts Gallery has been one of Florida’s most prominent purveyors of fine art. As cited by the New York Times, “although it is a neighborhood gallery, clients also come from all over the nation and abroad because of the gallery’s reputation for excellence, its extensive selection of art, its superior custom framing, restoration, personal on-site art and framing consultation and portraiture services.” Featuring original paintings, sculpture and limited edition fine art prints in styles ranging from contemporary to traditional masterworks; the Gallery represents acclaimed American and international artists. R. Roberts Gallery is located at 3606 St. Johns Avenue. Hours are Tuesday – Friday, 9am – 6pm, Saturday, 10am – 4pm and Sunday 11am – 3pm. December 15, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

National Multiple Sclerosis Society—North Florida Chapter
Announces Plans for a New Fundraising Event
–Inaugural ‘Mud Run’ Event Planned for February—

Jacksonville, FL (December 9, 2008)—The North Florida Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS-NFL) will add a new fundraiser to their roster of events beginning in 2009. The MS Mud Run Jacksonville will be held February 28, 2009, marking the first time an event of this type will be held in Northeast Florida, announced Jennifer Lee, President of NMSS-NFL.

The MS Mud Run Jacksonville is a 10K, boot camp-style obstacle course race, with most of the obstacles surrounded by (or consisting entirely of) mud. Individuals, teams of two and teams of five will compete for prizes and the satisfaction of a doing a dirty job very well. “The point is not to finish fast, but to finish with style,” said Lee.

“Mud Runs and similar events have been established in many cities around the country and have been quite successful, with thousands of people participating” added Lee. “We thought this type of event would be a great addition to our fundraising efforts and provide a terrific entertainment opportunity to participants and spectators alike here in Northeast Florida. And it’s a perfect tie-in to the MS positioning of “Join the Movement.’”

NMSS-NFL is well known for its Walk event in the Spring and its Bike event in the Fall. These events, with others, helped the Chapter raise $2.2 million for MS programs and research during 2008.

The MS Mud Run Jacksonville will be held on a parcel of open property at Cecil Commerce Center, from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM on February 28, 2009. Food and beverage vendors will be available and entertainment is planned throughout the day to provide a festival atmosphere for the event. A registration Web site will be available beginning January 1, 2009 at www.mudrunjax.com. Registration fees are $40 per person and each participant will agree to raise a minimum of $100 for NMSS-NFL. Simple online fundraising tools will be available to participants to help them make the fundraising easy.

Volunteer opportunities and event sponsorships are available for individuals and companies wanting to become involved. For information about volunteering, sponsorships or the event in general, visit www.nationalmssociety.org/FLN or call (904) 332-6810.
