Take the National Park Service’s ferry to Rattlesnake Island and experience daily military life at Fort Matanzas – the 18th century Spanish fort that guarded the southern approach to St. Augustine. From 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., authentically clad re-enactors will demonstrate Spanish muskets and cannons at the fort. Admission is free. Fort Matanzas National Monument is located on A1A at the south end of Anastasia Island approximately 15 miles south of St. Augustine.

Drake’s Raid – St. Augustine, Florida
Relive history as the English corsair, Sir Francis Drake, and his raiders return to St. Augustine in an authentic re-creation of the 1586 sack of the city. Open to the public, the raiders’ camp at the Fountain of Youth Park features displays of the arms and armor, craft skills, and lifestyles of the period explained by costumed interpreters. In the late afternoon, Drake and his followers will descend on the city’s historic district. Early evening will witness the English attack on the town, the Spanish residents’ defense, with pike and musket skirmishes, and the simulated destruction of the town by the invaders.

Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival Received Grant
Fernandina Beach, FL—The Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival has received a $7,200 grant from the Rayonier Foundation in support of the Festival’s free Concert in Central Park on June 1. The foundation is the charitable arm of Rayonier Inc., a leading international forest products company that operates three business units on Amelia Island – the Performance Fibers Fernandina Mill, the headquarters of Eastern Forest Resources and TerraPointe, a real estate subsidiary.
The Festival said it also received a $2,500 donation from First Coast Community Bank to support the Central Park concert, which will feature a program of American music performed by the Atlanta Woodwind Quintet.
