Winners of Fashion Week 2008 Design Contest Announced – Charleston, SC

CHARLESTON, South Carolina — Six talented local designers were given the exciting news that their original fashions will be showcased on the CFW ‘08 runway. Selected from 16 submissions, the winners are Foster Fox, Rachel Gordon, Krista Beth Huff, Ashley Reid, Megan Waldrep, and Carol Hannah Whitfield.

Each of these artists provided the Emerging Local Designer Competition judges with four sketches and two finished pieces as well as a description of the collection concept. The panel of fashion experts—including Laura Bennett of Project Runway; Bob Siegel, CEO of Lacoste; Squire Fox, renowned fashion photographer; Leigh Magar, local milliner; and Ayoka Lucas, style editor of Charleston magazine—paid special attention to criteria such as design knowledge, an eye for trends, and the quality of the garments.

The Charleston Art & Antiques Forum Announces 2008 Program
Charleston, SC – The Charleston Art & Antiques Forum will be held Wednesday, March 12 through Sunday, March 16, 2008 and will benefit the education programs at the Gibbes Museum of Art. Opening Charleston’s acclaimed Antiques Week, the 2008 Forum will examine Southern fine and decorative arts in a program entitled Terra Incognita: New Discoveries and Influences on the South. National experts will illuminate paintings, furniture, textiles, ceramics and other objects made in the South, while noting the effect of other traditions on the region. Once viewed as made in an “unknown land,” Southern works are now highly sought in the marketplace.

Echoes of Angels: Seasonal Music Through the Ages – Charleston, SC

The Charleston Renaissance Ensemble presents, “Echoes of Angels: Seasonal Music Through the Ages.” Charleston’s premier early music vocal group, the Renaissance Ensemble is comprised of 11 men and women, and specializes in sacred and secular music of the medieval and renaissance periods.
