Six Top 10 Players to Compete at Historic 35th Anniversary Celebration

The Family Circle Cup has a 35-year history of accomplishments in women’s professional tennis and has set a standard of excellence as a Tier I tournament on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. Charleston’s premier sporting event has also become its foremost social affair, and with a full schedule of special activities being planned for its 35th anniversary celebration, it’s fitting that yet another marquis player has committed to the 2008 event. With today’s announcement that World No. 9 Marion Bartoli has officially entered the Family Circle Cup, Charleston’s player field now boasts six of the Top 10 players on the WTA Tour. In addition to Bartoli, the world class draw will also include World No. 1 Justine Henin, No. 4 Jelena Jankovic, No. 6 Venus Williams, No. 7 Anna Chakvetadze, and No. 10 Serena Williams. The Family Circle Cup, America’s oldest Tier I event, will be held April 12th – 20th at the Family Circle Tennis Center in Charleston, South Carolina.

The 2008 Jacksonville Boat Show

The 2008 Jacksonville Boat Show is, February 8-10, 2008 at the Prime Osborn Convention Center.Thirty of the region’s leading dealers will be on-site to showcase a multitude of boats featuring over 85 boat lines. Attendees will have the opportunity to see a large variety of marine products and services as well as hundred of boats all under one roof.Boating enthusiasts will agree that this Show has “something for everyone.” Kids can learn from fishing experts during the “Hook the Futures” Kids’ Fishing Clinic. Captain Don Dingman will teach the ethics and basics of fishing. Three thousand dollars worth of prizes will be given away at each clinic. Saturday, February 9: 11 am, 2pm, 4pm; Sunday, February 10; 1pm & 3pm.Jax4kids.com will host the Underwater Kids Pavilion where kids can create “make and take” crafts and other nautical themed games and activities. Visit the Waters Edge Mermaid from 1pm-3pm on Saturday. There will also be a special appearance by some of the Jacksonville Jaguar Cheerleaders from 2pm-4pm on Saturday and Sunday.Not only can families browse and buy, but they can also enjoy watching a unique celebrity appearance by “Twiggy” the waterskiing squirrel who has appeared on popular movies Anchorman and Dodgeball.On Saturday, February 9, Joe Thames will perform southern rock from 12pm-3pm and Mint Julep Band will perform classic rock tunes from 4pm-7pm. Sweetheart 5K Run – Savannah, Georgia

On February 9, The Armstrong Atlantic State University Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery will host its 3rd annual Sweetheart 5K Run at AASU, with 50% of the proceeds to benefit Coastal Pet Rescue. The race starts at 8:30 am. Pre-registration is $10/individual, $15 couple.

Bausch & Lomb Championships – Amelia Island, Florida

Bausch & Lomb Championships returns for 29th Consecutive Year. The championship is a premier women’s professional tennis tournament, part of the worldwide Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.  In 2008, the tournament returns for a 29th consecutive year to the picturesque oceanfront resort of Amelia Island Plantation on Amelia Island, Florida. The tournament on April 7-13, 2008 will feature many of the top players and up-and-coming stars in the game, and is one of the most anticipated stops on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour for both players and fans.
