JACKSONVILLE — The Southern Women’s Show returns to Jacksonville’s Prime Osborn Convention Center October 16-19 with a star-studded line up that features the opportunity to get up close and personal with the hottest celebrities. The highly anticipated annual event designed specifically for women features dancing hunk Cristián De La Fuente, Hannah Montana’s Jason Earles and HGTV’s Garage Sale Lady Shelley Kincaid.

In addition to the star-studded roster, the consumer show features fashion shows, cooking demonstrations, beauty tips, health screenings, decorating ideas and personal growth opportunities — all tailored especially for busy women.

The 2008 guest line up:

Dance with Cristián De La Fuente. Hunky hoofer Cristián De La Fuente sizzled on the recent season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, and Jacksonville audiences will get the chance to get up close and personal with the actor and one of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful on Saturday, October 18.

Cristián de la Fuente’s work continues to show his versatility as both a comedic and dramatic actor. He stars as Rafael Ramirez in the USA Network series, In Plain Sight.”He is a Dominican shortstop that plays for the New Mexico Isotopes that gets called to play for the Marlins. Ramirez is Mary Shannon’s boyfriend played by Mary McCormack. She is a U.S. Marshal working in the highly secretive branch of the witness protection program who relocates Federal Witnesses.

Cristián stared in Univision’s Como Ama Una Mujer (How a Women Loves), the five-hour musical, drama, mini-series executive produced by Jennifer Lopez. In the sixth season of ABC’s hit show Dancing with the Stars, de la Fuente lit up the dance floor with his partner Cheryl Burke finishing in the top three.

Meet Hannah’s Big Bro. Get up close and personal with actor Jason Earles, who portrays Miley Cryus’ older brother on Disney’s Hannah Montana show. He’ll answer questions and meet and greet fans on Sunday, October 19. Before landing his current role, Jason was in “National Treasure” as Thomas Gates, the stable boy who discovers that America’s Founding Fathers hid the “Knights Templar Treasure”. In 2005, Jason got the part of Jackson Stewart (Miley Stewart / Hannah Montana’s older brother) where he gets a chance to not only display his comedic talents, but to use the “southern accent” that the California native learned during his theater training.

Garage Sale Lady. An HGTV favorite known to fans as “The Garage Sale Lady”, Shelley Kincaid will educate guests on finding treasure among trash and making thousands of dollars through garage sales. Author of The Garage Sale Decorator’s Bible, she makes it easy to save money when it comes to home decorating. With garage sale season in full force, Kincaid’s book helps budget-conscience decorators turn unusual objects into designer décor for pennies.

Not the average garage sale junkie, Kincaid hits hundreds of garage sales a week, traveling from coast to coast in search of unique items that can be transformed into fabulous décor. “Garage sales supply a perfect outlet for people looking to high-end decorate on a low-end budget,” said Kincaid. “If you’ve got passion and a creative eye, you can make great things happen for next to nothing.”

Guests will learn how to find the best garage sales; different kinds of sales and what to buy at each; how to bargain effectively; how to find “diamonds in the rough” and more. “People have this crazy perception that there’s only junk at garage sales, when in reality people are often selling brand new things for pennies on the dollar,” said Kincaid.

Show hours are Thursday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.– 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

Advance discount tickets for $7 are available exclusively at Panera Bread restaurants.

“San Marco Fashion Exchange” Planned To Benefit Dignity U Wear
–San Marco Boutiques Join Together for Fashion Show–

Jacksonville, FL (September 4, 2008)—A group of San Marco-base boutiques led by Rosie True and including Olive, Lela and Dance Trance, will hold a Fashion Show on Friday, September 12th, at San Marco’s Square One from 7:00 – 10:00 PM. Proceeds from the “San Marco Fashion Exchange” will benefit Dignity U Wear, the locally-based, national nonprofit that provides brand new clothing to men, women and children in need.

Tickets for the show, available at each participating boutique, is $7 before the event; $10 at the door. Or, in lieu of the ticket price, attendees may donate a piece of brand new clothing (with tags, or in an unopened bag). Clothing donations in exchange for tickets will also be accepted prior to the event at each boutique, as well as at the door on the evening of the show. Other merchants involved with the show, such as Carla’s Shoes and Philosophie are also selling tickets and accepting the clothing.

DJ Anonymous will be providing music and cocktails will be available for purchase during the Show.

“We are excited to be able to join with these other terrific shops in the San Marco area to do this show and to help Dignity U Wear, a very worthwhile organization,” said Angie Sparks, owner of Rosie True. “Initial response has surpassed expectations and it’s looking as if the show will be a sell out. We couldn’t be more pleased.”

Dignity U Wear was founded in 2000 and distributes brand new clothing it receives from manufacturers and retailers through a network of 300 recipient nonprofit agencies in 30 states. Locally, the organization has donated more than 20 million pieces of brand new clothing through 70 Northeast Florida-area nonprofits. Nationally, the organization has provided more than 4.4 million pieces, valued at $71 million, to more than 354,000 people.

The nonprofit does not receive any city, state or federal government grants or funding; they operate exclusively on private donations from individuals, corporations and private foundations. Volunteers help process 100% of the incoming inventory, providing 95% of the time and labor necessary to accomplish the task.

Rosie True is a one-of-a-kind retailer of fine clothing and accessories in northeast Florida, known to its customers for a great shopping experience and a blend of relaxed yet sophisticated style. Since opening the first Rosie True in Jacksonville’s historic San Marco Square in 1999, two additional boutiques have opened in Jacksonville Beach and Julington Creek.
