In the Golden Isles area – Brunswick, St. Simons Island, Darien and Jekyll Island, there are a few events taking place on the Fourth of July Weekend.

Old Fashioned Fourth of July in Brunswick, GA
Brunswick’s Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration takes place in Mary Ross Waterfront Park in Downtown Brunswick starting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4th, 2012. There will be free watermelon slices for everyone, music in the air, and plenty of old- fashioned games like sack races, water balloon tossing, and hula hoop contests, along with fun
prizes for the winners. Free slices of watermelon are handed out all evening, compliments of the City of Brunswick. The fireworks over the waters of the East River and Oglethorpe Bay start about 9:00 pm and last 30 minutes.Â

Cannons Across the Marsh, Fort King George, Darien
On July 4, 2012 from 10am-4pm, Fort King George State Historic Site will be hosting their annual Cannons Across the Marsh celebration in honor of Independence Day. Â Artillery and musket firings will be going on throughout the day. Â Free watermelon and lemonade will be served.
