In 2011 it will be the 12th annual Brunswick Stewbilee taking place at Mary Ross Waterfront Park in downtown Brunswick, GA on October 22, 2011. Cooking teams from all over the country compete to see who has the best Brunswick stew, competing for the “Peoples’ Choice” and judges award.
The event kicks off with the 1-mile Fun Run and 5k Road Race through historic Old Town, followed in style by the Pooch Parade at 9:45 am. This is not your regular festival parade, instead this Pooch Parade features costumed dogs. The $5 participation fee per costumed dog and all proceed go to support the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia.
But runners and dogs are not the only ones who will ejoy this festival. Kids will have a blast too. There is a special “Junior Stewbee Central†fun zone for kids which opens at 10:00 am.
Throughout the day there will be live music on the stage with the WharfRatz and Mason Waters and the Groove All stars. Festival goers can also enjoy arts and crafts displays and there is also a car show.
But wait – there’s more! The organizers also promises good clean festival fun in the dunk tank. Here you can enjoy watching local celebrities, politicians, and other known faces get there fair share of ice cold water.
But we still haven’t reached the main attraction. Everyone shows up at Mary Ross Park for one reason — the Brunswick Stew. It is a known fact that you can find the best Brunswick Stew in the country at this event. The main event of the day is of course the stew tasting which begins at 11:00 a.m.
Advanced tickets are $3 for kids under six-years-old and $6 for adults. On the day of the event tickets will be $4 for kids and $9 for adults. For more information visit the website.
