Savannah Craft Brew Fest

This year it’s the 3rd Annual Savannah Craft Brew Fest taking place on Labor Day weekend September 2 – 4, 2011. This three-day event will feature a dinner on Friday and a grand tasting session on Saturday.

The festival opens on Friday night, September 2, in the trade center’s ballroom with the Craft Brew and Food Pairing Dinner, where food has been carefully paired with Georgia craft beers. Brew-masters and chefs have worked together and will be on-hand to discuss their menu choices.
On Saturday, September 3, the event continues at The Esplanade – Savannah International Trade & Convention Center, with the Craft Brew Grand Tasting. The event features about more than 130 craft brews to sample. River Street and the Savannah skyline will provide a perfect backdrop for this portion of the festival. This is your opportunity to learn more about beer brewing and to get an opportunity to taste some of the best craft brews around. There’s also live entertainment, workshops and much more.

On Sunday there is an International Craft Brew Tasting at the Westin Hotel. The beers served at this event represent Old World as well as international brewers who are continuing the brewer’s art.  Breweries from  Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Holland, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and Scotland will be represented at this tasting event.

Also on Sunday the Beer vs. Wine Challenge.

Which pairs best with food – beer or wine? The challenge is on between 2010 Savannah Craft Brew Fest Pioneer Award winner Oscar Wong, founder of Highland Brewing Co., and Brew Fest Chairman and Wine Columnist Tim Rutherford. Wong will pair a beer and Rutherford a wine with each of five courses – then attendees decide which pairs best. This event takes place at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.
