The 28th annual Lowcountry Oyster Festival will take place on Sunday, January 29, 2012. This popular festival takes place every year on the 700+ acre grounds of historic Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant.
The Lowcountry Oyster Festival is the world’s largest oyster festival. The big oyster roast has approximately 65 000 pounds of oysters delivered to the festival grounds. The festival uses multiple tents and a permanent stage on the plantation’s spacious back lawn. .If you love oysters, you just can’t miss this event.
Highlights include the legendary “Oyster Shucking†and “Oyster Eating†Contests, live music from the stage, a selection of domestic and imported beers, a Kids Corner complete with pony rides and jump castles and a “Food Court†showcasing a variety of local favorite restaurants to satisfy everyone’s taste.
This event has been named one of the “top 20 events in the southeast†by Southeastern Tourism Society.
The event is a fundraising event benefiting the Ronald McDonald House, Hollings Cancer Center and the Charleston Science Materials Resource Center.
The Lowcountry Oyster festival will take place on Sunday, January 29 from 10:30am – 5pm. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the event, with no fee for children under 10. In an effort to improve the flow of traffic around the event site, everyone is encouraged to do their part and carpool.
