On Saturday, July 1, 2012 the Independence Day festival called Red, White and Blue on the Green takes place in historic downtown Summerville, South Carolina, Â from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
This event brings back an old fashioned Independence Day Celebration and focuses on events suitable for the whole family.
The parade in downtown Summerville is different from your usual Fourth of July parade. This parade does not allow motorized vehicles! I don’t know if this Eco-friendly parade is Summerville’s own way of contributing to the green movement, but watching the parade is an absolute must for Independence Day in Summerville, South Carolina. Here you’ll see any kind of imaginative, festive, patriotic decorated wagons, bicycles, tricycles, dogs, kids, goats, people on rollerblades, skateboards…and more.
The parade is led by Mayor Berlin G. Myers around Hutchinson Square. The best parade entry will be announced after the parade and will win a prize. There are also prizes for Uncle Sam & Miss Liberty, Most Patriotic, Best in Show and Best Decorated Pet.
The annual Red, White and Blue on the Green is hosted by Summerville D.R.E.A.M. There will be face painting and crafts for kids, a dunk tank, live music by Bad Moon Band and lots of food from vendors including hot dogs, snow cones and elephant ears and more. Wristbands are $3.00 and it includes unlimited games or unlimited jumping in the jump castles.
