Concerts in the parks in Charleston, SC – July 2010

Looking for something fun to do in Charleston in July? Choose from shagging on Folly Beach pier to beach music, a concert with reggae music or bluegrass under the Bridge.  There are some great music event in Charleston County Parks coming up in the month of July.

Folly Beach Fishing Pier

Come to Folly Beach Fishing Pier where DJ Jim Bowers will spin the hottest oldies and beach music around so you and your significant other can dance the night away under the stars.

REGGAE NIGHTS SUMMER CONCERT SERIES CHARLESTONReggae Concert Series – Jahfe
July 17, 7:30 – 11 p.m.
James Island County Park

This concert features traditional roots reggae mixed in with a new school attitude. The Reggae Nights concert series takes place in the county parks in the Charleston, SC area all summer long. No advance tickets will be sold. Band subject to change.  Saturday, July 17, 7:30-11 p.m. James Island County Park. $8 or 5 Greenbax/Free: Gold Pass Holders and ages 12 & under.

Mount Pleasant Pier

At the new Mount Pleasant Pier you can listen to some of the best music Charleston has to offer, with bluegrass band Common Ground.   Beverages will be available for purchase on-site. Only 800 tickets will be sold for this event. Advance purchase is recommended. There will be no refunds issued or rain dates scheduled for this event. Life’s a Beach in Charleston, SC, when Boone Hall Plantation opens it gates to the 2nd Annual Boone Hall Beach Blast on Saturday June 26, 2010.

Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs headline the 2nd Annual Boone Hall Beach Blast on Saturday June 26, 2010. Maurice Williams is best known for his number one hit “Stay” which was also featured in , “Dirty Dancing,” starring the late Patrick Swayze. But Williams rose to the top of billboard’s charts back in 1964 with the big hit “May I”.

The Mighty Tams are also appearing at the event, this group is well-known in beach music circles. Their entertaining performance includes
memorable hits and choreographed dancing. Other performers are The
Fantastic Shakers, The Sugar Bees, and reggae music by The Mystic Vibrations.

But there’s more than music at this event. No Beach Party is complete without a bikini contest – so Boone Hall hosts its own. There will also be
volleyball, shag lessons, and much more.

Beer, wine, and “beach” style food will be available for purchase. Bring your lawn chairs and beach blankets and find your spot on the beautiful back lawn at Boone Hall Plantation.

The 50th Golden Anniversary for Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs

The Beach Music and Shag Preservation Society of South Carolina a non profit 501-c organization presents to the Lowcountry the 50th Golden Anniversary for Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs.The event will take place at the Charleston Music Hall at 37 John Street Charleston, South Carolina, 29403.   The website for the Music Hall is www.charlestonmusichall.com.   Tickets are available at www.etix.com

Also performing in addition to  Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs are Billy Scott and the Party Prophets, Clifford Curry, and Unison.
