May 6, 2010 by Susanne Talentino

This year’s expo takes place at the Prime Osborn Convention Center in downtown Jacksonville on Saturday, May 15 and Sunday May 16, 2010.
Click the play button here to check out the interview we did with Martin Kabaki from the Jacksonville Green Expo and Dwain Stephens from Publix regarding the event.

Green Living, Health and Wellness under one roof
The event offers seminars and exhibits on green living and building, health and wellness topics. The annual Jacksonville Green Expo is run by Global Greenup, LLC. The company’s President Martin Kabaki says, “We’re very excited that the Green Expo is growing. ”
Purity Gikunju, Operations VP of Global Greenup, says, “In addition to fantastic displays of environmental products and services ranging from CFL bulbs to solar panels, there are going to be informative workshops to show people innovative and practical ways to be more environmentally conscientious in their lives and in their workplaces. We’ll have a Green Kids Zone, for children to play while they learn the importance of taking care of the environment. We are also planning to host a speaker series to brainstorm on different ways which will help in bringing more green jobs to the First Coast.”

North Florida Clean Cities Coalition
The 2010 Jacksonville Green Expo will also be used as a launch pad and a forum to bring awareness to the newly created North Florida Clean Cities Coalition. The Coalition is a campaign by the federal government to help reduce dependency on foreign oil and promote regional economic opportunities.

Exhibition Hours: 10am to 5pm on both days. For more information about the upcoming Green Expo, please  visit www.JacksonvilleGreenExpo.com

Savannah’s 13th Annual Earth Day Festival takes place in Forsyth Park with workshops, entertainment, vendors, raffles and more.
The City of Savannah’s Water Resources Bureau encourages festival-goers to be green and bring their own water bottle to the Earth Day festival because they will provide delicious water straight from the well.

Even the music performers are using solar energy at the event. The festival also has a recycling program for hard to recycle items. You can simply bring your item to the festival for recycling. At the festival they’ll except items such as cell phones, oil, tires and more. Please refer to the website for the complete list. (www.earthdaysavannah.org)

Sustainability Fair in Charleston, SC

January 28, 2009 by etalentino

Many of us want to live a green lifestyle and make less of an impact on the planet by saving resources, but when it comes down to the practical side of that, how do you live green?
There is an upcoming event at the College of Charleston that might help shed some light on the dilemma and help you move in the right direction.

The goal of the Green Fair is to give members of the community in Charleston lots of great tips, advice and ideas about how to manage to live green. On Thursday, January 29th from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm there is a Green Street Fair at the Collge of Charleston. Here you’ll find a variety of activities from how to use barrels to collect rain water, how to build bird houses, to organic food and drinks.

If you’re nearby, make sure to go and check it out. There’s even a give away of flourescent light bulbs and reusable bags as long as supplies last. So make sure to get to the fair early. Let us know how it went!
