A Musical Salute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – Savannah, Georgia

Savannah, GA) The Jewish Educational Alliance will be host to the 11th Annual, A Musical Salute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Tuesday, January 13th at 7:00 P.M. at the Jewish Educational Alliance (5111 Abercorn St). This year’s event is being co-presented by the Jewish Educational Alliance, the Savannah Jewish Federation Community Relations Council, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Day Association, the Coastal Jazz Association, through a grant from the City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs and the Southeast Georgia Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. Portman’s Music Superstore, Entenmann’s, Hands On Savannah of United Way, and MorningStar Cultural Arts are the event’s sponsors.

There will be a dessert reception at intermission.

This very powerful event, which will feature the Savannah Jazz Orchestra, co-led by Teddy Adams and Randall Reese, & The Savannah Arts Academy Skyelite Jazz Band, under the baton of Michael Hutchinson, is part of the official Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Celebration which pays tribute to the birth and life of one of America’s great men of freedom, justice and equality. The Savannah Jazz Orchestra is comprised of the areas best musicians and has backed some of the biggest names in jazz, including: Benny Golson, Jimmy Heath, Diane Schuur, Clark Terry and Bobby Watson. They have performed at most of the Savannah Jazz Festivals and their annual Tribute to the Duke Ellington Concert is a favorite among local jazz fans. The Skyelite Jazz Band has traveled the globe representing Savannah and has won many awards and accolades.

The Equinox Quintet Featuring Jeremy Davis – Savannah, GA

Equinox Jazz, featuring Saxophonist Jeremy Davis is an organization that exposes this region to our state’s contribution to “America’s most original art form.” Equinox hosts concerts that are tremendously entertaining for listeners young and old. It’s also a voyage into the history of our music heritage.

Jeremy Davis relocated to Savannah in September of 2005. As the leader of the 20 piece Equinox Jazz Orchestra, Jeremy has headlined theaters, festivals and music venues all across the Country. Jeremy’s work as the President of the Friends of Johnny Mercer allows him to pursue his passion for the great American songbook, tradition jazz standards and jazz education.

He has shared the stage with artist ranging from David Sanborn, Ellis Marsalis, Bill Watrous, Carl Fontana, Fred Wesley and Harry Waters to George Clinton, Govt Mule, Col. Bruce Hampton, Derek Trucks and many more. Heavily influenced by Art Pepper, Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz, Stanley Turrentine, Jimmy Smith and Miles Davis his Equinox Jazz small combos have been equally well received in Savannah and up and down the East Coast.

The concert will be held on Sunday, November 23rd at 5 pm at Four Points by Sheraton Historic Savannah – 520 West Bryan Street. (Bryan & MLK). The concert is free for Coastal Jazz Association members and $10 for non-members. Attendees who join CJA while at the concert will also be admitted for free.

Rhythm in Blue – Savannah, GA

US Air Force Reserve Jazz Combo will present a free concert, Rhythm In Blue at the Jewish Educational Alliance on Thursday, November 13th at 1:30 p.m. as part of a community celebration of the U.S. Armed Forces and to honor our country’s Veterans. Don’t miss it!

The afternoon of jazz is free and open to the public and is being sponsored by the Jewish Educational Alliance, the Coastal Jazz Association of Savannah and MorningStar Cultural Arts.

US Air Force Reserve Jazz Combo performs a wide variety of jazz music from traditional classics to contemporary, sizzling Latin to Motown. This versatile group has entertained tens-of-thousands of audiences at numerous festivals, schools, and military events throughout the Southeast region. Wherever they perform, they are met with excitement and enthusiasm! The concert features an afternoon of music which honors our soldiers, past and present.

The Band of the U.S. Air Force Reserve is one of the finest musical organizations in the Southeastern United States. The band travels in excess of 100,000 miles per year performing more than 500 concerts extensively throughout their primary geographic area of Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi. The band has also performed in many overseas locations to include Russia, Italy, Turkey, Portugal, Antigua, Panama, Germany, Australia and the Caribbean.
