For just about everybody, adolescence means having to confront a number of choices and life decisions, but rarely any as monumental as the one facing 15 year-old Alex (Inés Efron,) who was born an intersex child. As Alex begins to explore her sexuality, her mother invites friends including their 16-year old son Álvaro (Martín Piroyanski.) from Buenos Aires to come for a visit at their home on the gorgeous Uruguayan shore. Alex is immediately attracted to the young man, which adds yet another level of complexity to her personal search for identity, and forces both families to face their worst fears.

VivaBOpal (Anna Sophia Robb) is a lonely 10-year-old girl who has just moved to a small town in Florida with her preacher father. She adopts an orphaned dog, Winn-Dixie, named after the supermarket where she found him. The many adventures they encounter create an inseparable bond between Opal and her beloved companion which unites the townspeople and helps her own troubled relationship with her father. Julio Cesar Chávez film – Jacksonville, FL

This film will be playing at The New Jacksonville Landing Cinematheque. Admission is $8.00.
Julio Cesar Chávez is a documentary directed by the international actor, Diego Luna. (Y Tu Mama Tambien, Frida, MILK). It tells the story of a Mexican boxer who went from being a struggling car washer to becoming a legend. Not only do we learn the achievements of a champion, but we also peek into his everyday life. We examine the relationship of his son who has followed his father’s footsteps by achieving success on his own. Through Diego Luna’s directorial debut we are more able to understand the human, social, and political aspects of the life of one of the most important personalities of recent Mexican history.

Interviews with outstanding characters in the boxing industry, journalism, sports and politics, include
