Santa will be making another stop in Historic Downtown Summerville appearing at Elf Central on Saturday, Dec. 20 from 12 to 4 p.m. Santa, Mrs. Claus and their elves will be visiting with all children and taking photos of the moment.

Elf Central is located at 227 South Cedar Street (Wells Fargo). Children may have their photos taken with Santa and leave with a candy cane. The Polar Express
An inspiring 90-minute animated holiday adventure based on the Caldecott Award-winning book by Chris Van Allsburg, The Polar Express tells the story of a boy battling with the belief of Santa Claus’ existence. The film takes audiences on the boy’s extraordinary journey to the North Pole with the train’s conductor (voice of Tom Hanks) where he receives an extraordinary gift only those who still believe in Santa can experience. Ticket prices for the special engagement film are $10 for adults, $9 for military, seniors and students and $8 for children 3-12.

Santa vs. the Snowman
This movie tells the story of a lonely Snowman who at first is swept away by the magical wonders of Santa’s Village, only to become jealous of Santa because he is adored by children everywhere. An all-out, riotous battle for Christmas ensues, with the Snowman and his minions squaring off against Santa and his elf army for the rights to be Santa and receive all the love, good tidings and friendship the jolly man in red has all to himself. Tickets to the 35-minute film are $8 for adults with discounts for military, seniors, students and children.

The two holiday films will screen at the IMAX theater through Wednesday, Dec. 24. Tickets to both films can be purchased at the theater box office or on-line at www.wgv.com.

St. Johns County Festival of Trees at World Golf Village to Open

St. Johns County Festival of Trees at World Golf Village Set to Open December 5
Opening Night to Feature Activities for Families, Photos with Santa and More
St. Augustine, Fla.

The 2008 St. Johns County Festival of Trees at World Golf Village is set to officially open Friday, Dec. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. The fourth-annual holiday event, free and open to the public, will showcase decorated trees and wreaths throughout the St. Johns County Convention Center, adjacent to the Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village.

Opening night activities will include a celebratory ribbon cutting at 6:15 p.m. by Melinda Bergbom, Campaign Chairman, United Way of St. Johns County, and Derek May, Publisher of The St. Augustine Record (Empty Stocking Fund), along with Mark Schwantner, General Manager of the Renaissance Resort and St. Johns County Convention Center.

Additional happenings beginning at 6:30 p.m. will include kids’ cookie decorating, courtesy of the Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will add to the festivities with visits and photo opportunities and The Village Church choir will perform a variety of holiday tunes throughout the night in the atrium of the Renaissance Resort.

The festival will showcase trees and wreaths decorated by a variety of companies and organizations throughout the convention center. The event will run through Sunday, Dec. 14 and all proceeds from public monetary votes (minimum $1 bid) as well as a silent auction will benefit two local charities – the United Way of St. Johns County and The St. Augustine Record’s Empty Stocking Fund.

Come celebrate the beginning of the holiday season at the Winter Celebration in Mandarin. The whole family can enjoy a variety of fun activities such as hayrides, rides on the putt-putt train, visits with Santa, games and nature crafts, nature exhibits and making Victorian ornaments and much more.
