Coastal Outdoor Weekend Coming To St Marys – Georgia

August 22, 2007 by Susanne Talentino

(St. Marys, Georgia) During the weekend of September 21-23, South Georgia residents and visitors to St. Marys, Georgia will have an unprecedented opportunity to learn about and explore Georgia’s coast during the COASTAL OUTDOOR WEEKEND.

Hosted by Up the Creek Xpeditions, Coastal Georgia’s leading outdoor expedition specialist, the three-day gathering will feature nature seminars, kayaking instruction, excursions (morning and evening paddles) and gourmet food — all within the 57 acre confines of Camden County’s “jewel”, Gilligan’s Island. This facility features trails through native and pristine Georgia habitat, as well as a cool, spring-fed lake.

On-water and interaction seminars will include Basic Kayaking and Rescues, Advanced Strokes, Fishing from a Kayak, and Marshland Ecosystem. Presentations to include Georgia Nature by Seasons (Christina Nelson & Tom Woolf), Planning a Kayak Trip (Greg Bailey, Past President, Florida Sea Kayak Association), How to Turn Your Backyard into A Bird Feeding Habitat (Christina Nelson). Two on-water excursions will be guided by Up The Creek Xpeditions: an Evening Marsh Paddle and a Morning Paddle. And the event will be celebrated with a special Dinner Social at Borrell Creek Landing Restaurant on Saturday evening.

“The City of St. Marys is excited about this opportunity to showcase our beautiful coastal waterways and our downtown historic district,” said Alyce Thornhill, St. Marys’ Economic Development Director. “Outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels from the beginner to the expert will enjoy the activities planned for the Coastal Outdoor Weekend.”
