Fahrenheit 451 on Stage – Brunswick, Georgia

September 6, 2007 by Susanne Talentino

GIAHA is presenting a staged version of Fahrenheit 451 as the opening show of our 2007-2008 Performing Arts Series. Fahrenheit 451Bradbury’s chillingly prophetic story tells of a world in which people scorn reading, books are burned, and the media dominate everyone’s lives. The compelling tale follows the awakening of Guy Montag, a “fireman” (an agent assigned by the government to destroy the unwanted books) who begins to question his work on behalf of a society given over to banal amusements in a time of endless wars. Playwright Rob Nixon has adapted the text directly from the book (without alterations to Bradbury’s language or themes) for a troupe of actors/readers who will present the novel on stage with an original score composed by Dan Nettles and performed live by the ensemble Kenosha Kid. The production also features video segments to illustrate the media distractions that trap the characters in meaningless lives. You won’t want to miss this powerful, once-in-a-lifetime event!
