White Lighting Ceremony – St Marys, GA
Santa will arrive to downtown historic St Marys where it will be time for the lighting of the Christmas tree to announce the beginning of the holiday season.
Solano Cycle Scooter Rally 2007 – St Augustine, Florida
Scout on a scooter during this fun scavenger hunt and scooter ride through St. Augustine. Bring your own scooter or you can rent one to take part in all the fun. Participants will receive a list of riddles that must be solved by visiting more than 40 area restaurants and businesses where they receive a ticket and a chance to win prizes. Check-in is from 11 a.m. to noon. The Scavenger hunt is from noon to 3 p.m. with prizes being awarded at 3 p.m. The fun all ends with a police escorted ride on A1A. Entry fees are $25 for drivers and $15 for participants and include lunch catered by Carrabba’s Italian Grill, and a t-shirt. Proceeds benefit the Betty Griffin House Emergency Shelter.

Historic Weapons Firing Demonstration – St Augustine, Fl
Take the National Park Service’s ferry on Saturday, Nov. 3, to Rattlesnake Island and experience daily military life at Fort Matanzas – the 18th century Spanish fort that guarded the southern approach to St. Augustine. From 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., authentically clad re-enactors will demonstrate Spanish muskets and cannons at the fort.

Savannah Film Festival honored John Sayles
John Sayles Honored on Oct. 29 Followed by Screening of the Movie “Honeydripperâ€
SAVANNAH, Ga. — The 10th annual Savannah Film Festival, hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design and sponsored by Memorial Health, the Savannah Morning News, the City of Savannah and The Talking Phone Book, presented John Sayles with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Directing Oct. 29, 7 p.m., at Trustees Theater, 216 E. Broughton St.
Academy Award-winning actor Chris Cooper, a friend of Sayles’ known for his roles in “Seabiscuit†(2005),“American Beauty†(1999) and “Lone Star†(1996), presented Sayles with the award.
“He’s telling the stories no one else is telling,†said Cooper. “And he does it with intelligence and heart.â€
