little st simons islandLITTLE ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA — The Lodge on Little St. Simons Island has been voted number one in the United States in the Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards for 2007. Little St. Simons Island took top honors in the Mainland U.S. Resorts category and ranked number 22 in the world in the Best of the Best list, with a rating of 95.4 out of a possible total of 100.
More than 28,000 Conde Nast Traveler readers participated in the magazine’s annual Readers’ Choice Poll, selecting the world’s finest airlines, cities, islands, hotels, resorts and cruise lines. Complete poll results are published in the November issue.“We are very pleased and proud to have received both these honors,” said Joel Meyer, General Manager of the Lodge at Little St. Simons Island. “We believe they reflect the commitment we have to our guests to provide a rare and memorable experience.”

Little St. Simons Island, which will celebrate 100 years of family ownership in 2008, remains one of the last privately owned barrier islands on the Georgia coast. Open year ‘round, Little St. Simons Island hosts up to 30 guests a night, for an all-inclusive, nature-related experience. Accessible only by boat, the Island offers guests the opportunity to enjoy nature encounters, outdoor recreation, fishing, boating and birding on a 10,000-acre island wilderness with seven miles of unspoiled beach.

With adventure travel topping the vacation request list, those who want to rediscover nature will find heaven on earth on Little St. Simons Island. The Island, which has remained relatively the same over the past 100 years, offers travelers of all ages an “up-close and personal” look at a rare natural world. Awaiting discovery and exploration are acres of moss-draped maritime forests and miles of tidal creeks, estuaries and beaches untouched by man. The beauty of the landscape is punctuated by the opportunity to observe the area’s wildlife in its natural habitat.

Little St Simons Island 2The combination of rustic, yet superior guest comfort and service in its barrier island wilderness setting has earned The Lodge on Little St. Simons Island many previous accolades including the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Award for “Best Small Hotel in North America” and a place on past Condé Nast Gold Lists.
