“Wild Dreams – Discovering Henry M. Flagler†Comes to Whitney Laboratory
See for yourself the wild dreams of Henry Flagler as Paul J. Jellinek presents his one-man show “Wild Dreams – Discovering Henry M. Flagler.†This benefit performance takes you on an exciting journey through Henry Flagler’s life – from his women, to his work with John D. Rockefeller, to his oil monopoly, hotels and railways, even his family affairs. This promises to be an extraordinary afternoon of history and entertainment as Jellinek explores the myths and facts about “the man who invented Floridaâ€.
This performance will be held on Saturday, September 27th, at 2:00 p.m. at Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience in the Center for Marine Studies. The play is a total of 2 hours, including a 30 minute intermission. Tickets are $10 each and all proceeds will benefit Whitney Lab’s educational programs, the Traveling Zoo and A Day at Whitney Lab. These programs introduce children to science through hands-on discovery and help foster an interest in scientific exploration. Tickets are available at Whitney Lab, SunTrust Bank in Hammock Dunes and Flagler Beach, and RBC Bank in Palm Coast and Flagler Beach. Donations are also gladly accepted.
Star of the one-man show and playwright, Paul J. Jellinek, originally from New York, has an extensive theatrical background playing parts such as Daddy Warbucks in Annie, Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, and Max Detweiller in Sound of Music. His co-playwright Jill Kamp Melton has been a professional actress for her entire life and founded American Showcase Company, an equity company in Alexandria, VA. She is also trademarked as The Queen of Bargains. Director, Anne Kraft, a native of St. Augustine, spent most of her adult life in New York City where she trained and worked as a professional actress in theater, TV and film. In 1992, she co-founded the Limelight Theatre and has since retired. Kraft is currently an acting teacher and coach. Jellinek credits Kraft for inspiring him to become Henry M. Flagler.
The Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience is a biomedical and biotechnology research institute of the University of Florida. It is made up of eleven different internal labs that use marine animals for basic biological research that can be applied to human health. The Lab provides training for future experimental biologists, educational programs for kindergarten through university level students, and monthly lectures for the general public. The Lab is located at 9505 Ocean Shore Boulevard on the border of Flagler County and St. Johns County.
