Civil War Encampment – Jekyll Island, Georgia
Visit military living history re-enactors with the Armory Guards as they recreate a Civil War encampment near where the original military units once set up their quarters. Throughout the course of the demonstration, the Armory Guards intend to accurately and respectfully portray the experience of the common American Civil War infantry soldier in Georgia.
Come discover more about Civil War soldiers at the Horton House Historic Site from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm this Saturday, May 3 and from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm this Sunday, May 4, 2008.
Discuss battle tactics with the soldiers at camp. Watch them practice their drills and march along with them. Witness them mount guard, fire muskets, and patrol the camp.

Tour the Gardens of the Zoo! 2-Part Series Take a guided walking tour with the gardeners that keep us green. Director of Horticulture, Bob Chabot, will start us off with an introduction to the Gardens & Zoo. We will then proceed to the gardens of the month, with each tour led by one of our very own knowledgeable garden staff. Tour 1 *Meet outside the gates by 9:15 for check in* We will admire the lushness of the gardens at Main Camp, stroll down the River of Color, and on to peruse the African garden of Savanna Blooms. Tour size is limited to 30. Pre-registration is required. Cost per tour- members $20, nonmembers $25 -admission to zoo included in class price.
