Chanukah in the Square 2008 – Charleston, SC

hanukkah ~ eighth nightThe Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program at the College of Charleston and Chabad of Charleston in cooperation with the Office of Cultural Affairs of the City of Charleston will once again present a citywide celebration of the festival of lights on Sunday, December 21st from 4:00-6:00pm in Marion Square Park.

Celebrating the first night of Chanukah, the festivities will include lighting of the first candle, live music, and a performance by the Jewish Choral Society. There will be jump castles, face painting, craft tables for children and adults where you can make your own dreidel, chanukiyah (menorah), and even donuts….plus more activities for everyone!

Arts & Craft Show at MOSH in Jacksonville

Don’t miss MOSH’s First Annual Arts & Crafts Show! Local vendors will set up booths where they will sell hand-crafted, artistic creations and art. For example ceramics, stationary and cards, floral arrangements, glassware, and jewelry. The Museum will also have representatives from the Pampered Chef, Arbonne International, Premier Jewelry and Tupperware. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is included with Museum admission and the “Breakfast with Santa” event cost.

Sunday Family Free at MOCA – Jacksonville, Florida

Take a break from the holiday shopping on Sunday with your family and do something different. From 12.00 – 4.00 pm the family can go to the Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCA, for free. Children under the age of 18 and accompanying adults are free thanks to the sponsorship from Bank of America.
So if you haven’t been to the museum, why not check it out on Sunday.

Award-winning Documentary Screening – Jacksonville, Fl

The Award-winning Documentary “Africa’s Daughters” is screening on December 7th at the San Marco Theater in Jacksonville.
This documentary is the winner of the Atlanta Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize for Best Short Documentary, “Africa’s Daughters” . The film captures the inspiring journey of two Ugandan girls with one big dream: to lift themselves and their families out of poverty.

Local filmmaker Natalie Halpern will be present at the screening and available for a Q&A afterwards.
Tickets are $10, and the money will go to help Ruth and Hoctavia, the two girls in the film, pay for college in Uganda. Visit the website for more information.

Holiday Tour of Historic Homes in Savannah, Georgia in December

This is a time of year when southern hospitality is more welcoming than ever. The people of Savannah is again welcoming visitors into their private residences for the always popular annual Holiday Tour of Historic Homes.
The Holiday tour of Historic Homes has been described as “an intimate visit with residents of Savannah’s Historic District.”, and there is simply no better way to get a closer look at the historic district. The tour is arranged by the Downtown Neighborhood Association, so it is hosted by folks who actually live in the neighborhood.

This year two classic self-guided tours of historic Savannah homes are offered, one in the afternoon and another in the evening. Guests will receive the complete Tour Program at Tour Headquarters. The program includes maps, directions, and descriptions of all the homes.
