Taste of Charleston takes place October 8-10, 2010. This year it will be the 30th annual Taste of Charleston event. The popular three-day celebration of Lowcountry cuisine feature Charleston’s finest, nationally-renowned chefs. Over 10,000 people are expected to come to the event this year. In addition to a few new surprises this year, there will be three events returning to the weekend, including:
• Taste – Iron Chef Competition
This competition will be held on Friday October 8, at the Culinary Institute of Charleston’s Palmer Campus in downtown Charleston. The TV show style real life contests showcase some of the best local chefs in the Institute’s state-of-the-art amphitheater kitchen.
• Taste of the Arts on Gallery Row
This art walk event takes place on Saturday, October 9, at different galleries in the downtown area of Charleston. The event combines Lowcountry art AND culinary art into one extraordinary evening showcasing talents of local artists and chefs. Art walkers get to taste a sampling of delicious appetizers from a variety of Charleston’s favorite restaurants while exploring the art galleries downtown.
• Taste of Charleston (Main Event)
The main event is held on Sunday, October 10, at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant. Here you’ll find a sampling of tempting food served at more than 50 of Charleston’s finest restaurants. Additional highlights; the legendary Waiter’s Wine Race, food and wine pairings, specialty and imported beers, live bands and a Kids corner complete with pony rides.
This year, the Taste of Charleston’s main event will also play host to officials from the Guinness Book of World Records, as the world’s largest snow-cone will be prepared on-site in hopes of setting a new record.
