Fourth of July Weekend in Georgia

June 20, 2011 by Susanne Talentino

Fourth of July Weekend in Coastal Georgia 2011

There are lots of fun things to do in coastal Georgia for the Fourth of July weekend. Many cities start their celebration of Independence Day already on Saturday July 2  this year.  So if you really enjoy fireworks, you  can actually enjoy several fireworks and celebrations and make the weekend an extraordinary birthday bash for our country.

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA

Savannah celebrates Fourth of July in style. The Great American Weekend takes place on River Street July 2 – 4, 2011, with lots of fun things for the whole family. On Monday July 4th, there is of course fireworks over the river as usual.

In the Savannah area you can watch fireworks twice. Start already on Sunday July 3rd, with Tybee Island Fireworks at dusk. Just be prepared to come early and stay late.

Read more about Savannah & Tybee Island’s  Fourth of July Events here.

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GEORGIA

"state of georgia flag"St. Simons Island has a great Arts & Crafts Festival every Fourth of July called the Sunshine Festival.  The festival takes place July 2 – 4, 2011.  As usual, there is also Fourth of July fireworks over the water. The fireworks  on St. Simons Island are scheduled for 9 pm on July 4, 2011.

BRUNSWICK, GEORGIA

In downtown Brunswick, Georgia, head to Mary Ross Park for an old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration with music, food and fun for the whole family.

DARIEN, GEORGIA

The concert Red, White and Blue on the Bluff takes place on Saturday July 2, 2011 at the waterfront park. The concert is followed by fireworks.  Another great family event in Darien is the Cannons Across the Marsh at Fort King George.

ST. MARYS, GEORGIA

In St. Marys, Georgia, Fourth of July this year is celebrated on Monday July4, 2011, with a customary 4th of July Festival followed by fireworks.

New Lions Club in St Marys

October 9, 2010 by Joe Talentino

The new Lions Club in St Marys is already making changes for the good of the community with a new event
on Saturday October 23rd from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm, the newly formed Lions Club of St. Marys is sponsoring an area wide yard sale called “Lions Club Whale of a Sale”. Anyone can participate and it is only $20 to have a 20’x10’ space. The Whale of a Sale will be held on the grounds of the Box Board Packaging Plant at 2431 Osborne Road. The visibility and advertising should make this a well attended event! Similar events have had thousands of shoppers.

For people who do not want to set up and sell, the Lions are taking donations of gently used household and furniture items, exercise equipment, decorative items, etc. – with the exception of clothing. Donations can be dropped off at Hippo Storage in Kingsland (the old 84 Lumber) All proceeds will be kept local and will benefit local children & residents in need of vision care.

Kingsland Catfish Festival Video

September 27, 2010 by Joe Talentino

The Kingsland Catfish Festival on Labor Day Weekend must be one of the most anticipated events in Camden County, so of course we had to go. There are lots of things to see and do, although it seems as if Joe was mostly interested in the food.

Let us know what you think about our videos. You can post your comments below. Thanks!

Things to do in Georgia – September 2010

September 7, 2010 by Susanne Talentino

September is a beautiful month on the coast of Georgia, and there are a lot of festivals coming up. September is the month for seafood with the Shrimp and Grits Festival in Jekyll Island, and the Rock Shrimp Festival in St Marys.

Here are a few ideas of things to do in the month of September in coastal Georgia:

Gray’s Reef Ocean Film Festival – Sept 17 – 19, 2010
Savannah is probably most known for its big film festival in October, but the Ocean Film Festival is gaining in popularity. This year the film festival screens many interesting and important films made about the oil spill.

Shrimp and Grits Sept 17-19, 2010
Head to the historic district on Jekyll Island for one of the best seafood festivals on the coast.  Lots of delicious food, chefs from all around are showing off their talents in the cooking competition, live entertainment and lots of fun for the whole family. Go to our page for Shrimp & Grits Festival

Jazz in the Park – St Simons Island, Sept 19, 2010
This is the last chance for the season to enjoy Jazz in the Park right outside St. Simons Island Lighthouse.  This event is scheduled at high tide, so the breeze from the ocean can cool you off.

Read more about the event here.

Savannah Jazz Festival Sept 19 – 26, 2010
This is one of the most popular festivals in Savannah, and no wonder. The city is just the perfect location for a jazz festival.  Lots of performances to choose from, check out our special events page for Savannah Jazz Festival

The Rock Shrimp Festival – Sept 25, 2010
The rock shrimp is a delicious shrimp with a hard shell. Every year the city of St. Marys in South Georgia holds a special festival to celebrate the shrimp.  Read more on our special page for Rock Shrimp Festival
