Who doesn’t love October? The weather is a little bit cooler and it’s a great time to spend time outside. October is always a month filled to the brim with festivals, celebrations and events. But October is not only about pumpkin patches, scary ghosts and gremlins or lederhosen and oompah bands.  Just take a look at some of our suggestions below.

First Wednesday Art Walk – Jacksonville, Florida

This weekend it’s Father’s Day.  For Mother’s Day many of us like to take our parent out for breakfast, lunch or dinner – and fathers will enjoy a nice meal to.

I have found a few interesting things you can do in the Jacksonville area with your Dad.

 

Father’s Day at the Jacksonville Zoo

On Sunday June 19th, 2011, the Zoo has a special “Buy One – Get One Free”, so for Dads who want to take a child to the Zoo, or vice versa – Father’s Day could be the day to visit the zoo.  Please note, for the special price on admission you need to print out the coupon from their website. For the Ice Prince and Princess
Looking for something fun and unusual to do with Dad? How about a spin on the ice, it’s the perfect way to cool off in the summer heat.  Jacksonville Ice & Sportplex has a matinee session from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Sunday June 20, 2011. World Golf Hall of Fame on Father’s Day

If you’re Dad is a golf enthusiast, why not take a road trip to the World Golf of Village for Father’s Day.

The World Golf Hall of Fame will offer complimentary admission to everyone who visits the museum on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 19, 2011,  from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. To celebrate the final round of the U.S. Open, the museum will be featuring its U.S. Open memorabilia with self-guided tours and storytellers in the building.

The first 500 fathers will receive a goodie bag and enjoy free admission at the Hall’s 18-hole, natural-grass putting course and half price admission to the IMAX Theater. Contests will also be conducted throughout the day on the Hall of Fame’s Challenge Hole, indoor golf simulator and indoor putting green.

The World Golf Hall of Fame offers free admission for everyone for its annual Community Day which takes place on June 20th.

Gator Bowl Events 2010 – Jacksonville

New Year’s means parade, fireworks and football — at least in Jacksonville, Florida. As you know, The 2010 Konica Minolta Gator Bowl will showcase the West Virginia Mountaineers vs. the Florida State Seminoles. The big game kicks off at 1:00 pm on New Year’s Day at the stadium.

small-footballThe River City is going to attract a huge crowd of football fans for the week leading up to game day. Didn’t get tickets? No worries, there is a whole bunch of fun events around town and plenty of cool hang outs.

The Patch
A great idea is to purchase “The Patch” which gets you in for free at some of the events – for example the Budweiser Tailgate Party, and the patch also gives you pretty good rebates at different places from $2.00 off admission at the Zoo to half price on golf karts and laser tag at the Adventure Landing. The Patch is only $10.

Coaches and athletes will share testimonials of how Christianity is a part of their life and two local student athletes will be presented the Tony Boselli Award of Excellence.

Spring Garden Tour at Jacksonville Zoo in April

Spring is in the air and at Jacksonville Zoo there will be a new Garden Tour on Saturday April 4th to explore new flowers and plants. During the tour visitors will stroll through the gardens with Jacksonville Zoo’s expert horticulture staff to see what’s blooming.

Pre-register is required and you can register online at www.jacksonvillezoo.org for the event. The cost is $20/person ($10 for zoo members) and admission to the zoo is included in the price.

The VyStar 5K Run is a great way to get involved with all the excitement the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl has to offer. If running or walking is your thing, this race is for you. The race is held right before the Gator Bowl Parade, and runs along portions of the parade route through downtown Jacksonville.

Participants will enjoy live music, free beer, dancing and just down right partying inside the Jacksonville Landing right after the race. Each entrant will receive a colorful VyStar 5K Run T-shirt.
